ORIGIN AND CHARACTERISTICS
Perlite is a petrographic term for a siliceous volcanic rock which naturally occurs in certain region throughout the world. It has a distinguishing feature which sets it apart from other volcanic materials – it’s ability to expand four to twenty times its original volume when heated to certain temperatures.
When heated above 1640ºF (890ºC) crushed perlite rock expands in a manner similar to popcorn. This expansion is due to the presence of combined water with the crude perlite rock. The combined water vaporizes during the heating process and creates countless tiny bubbles which account for its light weight and other exceptional physical properties of expanded perlite.
Ultralite Perlite Filter Aid is produced by continuous milling and classifying the expanded perlite under stringent quality control conditions.
These materials exhibit a unique, jagged, interlocking structure with myriad of microscopic channels to enable optimum flow rates and clarities for a variety of applications.
In the past two decades, the use of perlite as filter aid has taken over diatomite in terms of efficiency and economy. It is also a known fact that the trend will further escalate in the near future as perlite-related products continue to gain acceptance in the world market. It is also widely accepted because it is NON-HAZARDOUS AND NON-TOXIC.
BASIC FUNCTIONS OF FILTRATION
Remove Suspended Solids
- Effective Clarification
- Maintain Practical flow rates
- Cost Efficient
- Safe and dependable
THE NEED TO USE FILTER AID
● Improved Filtrate Clarity
● Improved Filter Flow Rates
● Improved Cost Efficiency of Filtration
ULTRALITE BASIC ADVANTAGES IN FILTRATION
ULTRALITE PERLITE FILTER AID has a wide range of densities. Because of its low density characteristic , total filter aid cost can be reduced by 25-50% which is an important consideration when comparing cost. ULTRALITE Perlite Filter Aid offers more volume per ton in terms of usage.
Engineered Filter Aid Design
Production processes are closely monitored and controlled so that each filter aid has a characteristic clarity and flow rate ratio. Standardized filtration and permeability tests ensure that Ultralite Perlite will capture suspended solids at an efficient flow rate.
Standard and Custom Application Grades
The unit operations of filtration is a balance and trade-off between attainable filtrate clarity and filtrate flow rates. Efficient control of the production process gives United Perlite Corporation the advantages of supplying a wide spectrum of different filter aid grades in order to meet the clarity and flow rate needs of various applications.
Proven United Perlite Corp. Ore Deposits
The size and quality of the UPC ore deposits have been confirmed through extensive geological analysis and exploration, thereby ensuring a source of high quality filter aid for many years. Mining, hauling, and processing are all performed by UPC. This provides a dependable supply of filter to our customers. As with UPC’s other filter aid products, Ultralite Perlite is available through an extensive distributor network or direct sales.
Low Dry Bulk and Wet Product Densities
Filter aids are purchased by weight, but applied by volume. Ultralite is competitively priced and has a product density up to 50% lower than many other filter aids. This combination gives Ultralite Perlite a significant advantage when calculating the cost to filter a gallon of process slurry.
Quality ore reduces the amount of contaminants which might get into the finished filter aid. Consequently, Ultralite Perlite is essentially inert in most processes and, when used as directed, is safe for filter operators to handle.
